Stainless Steel Coil Tube — Precision-Wound Tubular Product

Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Coil Tube is a continuously formed, precision-wound tubular product manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. This product is supplied in coil (spool) configuration, enabling seamless integration into high-volume fabrication lines, automated forming equipment, and continuous processing systems. Unlike individually cut pipe sections, the coil tube format eliminates butt welds and joint discontinuities, providing superior structural integrity, consistent wall thickness, and enhanced corrosion resistance across the entire length of the product.

The coil tube is available in a wide range of diameters, wall thicknesses, and grades, making it suitable for demanding applications in chemical processing, pharmaceutical equipment, food and beverage systems, aerospace components, automotive exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and architectural applications.

Material & Properties

The Stainless Steel Coil Tube is manufactured from austenitic, ferritic, duplex, and martensitic stainless steel grades, each selected to meet specific performance requirements regarding corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, temperature tolerance, and formability.

Manufacturing Process

The production of Stainless Steel Coil Tubes follows a rigorously controlled multi-stage manufacturing process to ensure dimensional accuracy, metallurgical quality, and surface integrity:

  1. Raw Material Procurement: Cold-rolled stainless steel strip is sourced from certified mills, meeting the specified chemical composition per ASTM A240 or EN 10088-2. Incoming material undergoes spectrographic verification and mechanical testing.
  2. Coil Slitting & Leveling: The master coil is slit to precise width using high-precision slitting lines with edge trim removal. The resulting strip is then leveled through roll-based leveling equipment to eliminate residual stresses and ensure flatness within ±0.2 mm/m.
  3. Forming & Welding: The strip is fed through a series of progressive forming rolls (roll-forming), progressively bending the flat strip into a tubular cross-section. Welding is performed via one of the following methods:
    • ERW (Electric Resistance Welding): High-frequency or low-frequency resistance welding for thin-wall applications (≤ 3 mm).
    • SAW (Submerged Arc Welding): For heavier wall sections with superior weld penetration.
    • Laser Welding: For ultra-precise, narrow heat-affected zones with minimal distortion.
  4. Heat Treatment (Annealing): The welded tube is solution-annealed in a continuous annealing furnace (CAF) or batch annealing furnace at temperatures between 1050°C and 1150°C, followed by controlled cooling. This eliminates welding stresses, restores full austenitic structure, and enhances corrosion resistance.
  5. Pickling & Descaling: Post-annealing oxide scale is removed using a controlled acid pickling process (hydrofluoric/nitric acid mixture) to restore the passive chromium oxide layer and achieve the desired surface finish.
  6. Dimensional Calibration & Sizing: The tube passes through a cold-sizing machine with precision-calibrated rollers to achieve final dimensional tolerances within specified limits.
  7. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Each coil undergoes 100% automated inspection including:
    • Electromagnetic (Eddy Current) Testing for weld seam integrity and wall defects.
    • Hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure testing for leak-tightness verification.
    • Visual inspection of surface quality and dimensional conformance.
  8. Coiling & Packaging: The finished tube is coiled onto precision-wound reels using constant-tension coiling equipment. Coils are protected with anti-corrosion paper wrapping, polyethylene film, and secured with steel strapping. Export shipments are crated in ISPM-15 treated wooden crates.
