Manufacturing Process
- Strip Preparation: Cold-rolled stainless steel strip (coil) is slit to precise widths using high-precision slitting lines. Surface inspection and thickness verification are performed at this stage.
- Forming: The flat strip is passed through a series of progressively shaped rollers in a cold forming machine, gradually bending the material into a semi-circular cross-section. Precision roller tooling ensures consistent ovality control.
-
Welding: The semi-formed tube is joined along the longitudinal seam using one of the following methods:
- ERW (Electric Resistance Welding): High-frequency induction heating with contact pressure welding — suitable for standard grades and high-speed production.
- Laser Welding: Fiber laser beam welding — provides superior weld quality, minimal heat-affected zone (HAZ), and is preferred for high-purity and thin-wall applications.
- Orbital TIG Welding: Rotating tungsten inert gas welding — used for critical applications requiring maximum weld integrity.
- Expanding / Sizing: The welded tube passes through a series of sizing rollers and, where required, an expander mandrel to achieve final dimensional accuracy and roundness.
- Heat Treatment (Annealing): Continuous annealing in a protective atmosphere (endothermic gas or vacuum) restores the fully annealed microstructure, eliminates residual stresses, and ensures maximum ductility.
- Pickling & Passivation: The annealed tube is subjected to acid pickling (nitric/hydrofluoric acid bath) to remove oxide scale, followed by passivation to restore the chromium-rich passive film.
- Surface Finishing: Optional mechanical polishing, electrolytic polishing, or chemical etching to achieve the specified surface finish grade.
- Coiling & Packaging: The finished tube is wound onto a protective coil core, wrapped in moisture-barrier film, and palletized for shipment.
