Stainless Steel Spiral Coil Tube for Reactor Applications

Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. (Product No. 994) offers premium-grade Stainless Steel Coil Tubes (盘管, Coiltube) engineered specifically for high-performance chemical processing equipment, including impinging jet–spiral coil reactors and other advanced micro-mixing systems. These coil tubes are manufactured to meet the rigorous demands of continuous-flow reaction environments where precise fluid dynamics, thermal management, and chemical resistance are paramount.

Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Spiral Coil Tube is a cold-worked, continuous-length tubing product wound into a helical or spiral configuration. Unlike straight pipe sections, coil tubes provide extended surface area within a compact footprint, making them ideal for heat exchange, catalytic reaction, and micromixing applications. In particular, these products are designed for use in Impinging Jet–Spiral Coil Reactors (撞击流-螺旋盘管反应器), where the geometry of the coil enhances turbulent flow regimes and promotes superior micromixing performance at the molecular level.

The spiral coil configuration generates centrifugal forces that intensify secondary flow patterns (Dean vortices), thereby reducing boundary layer thickness and accelerating mass and heat transfer rates compared to conventional straight-tube reactors. This makes the product indispensable for fast chemical reactions, polymerization processes, and pharmaceutical synthesis where reaction selectivity and conversion efficiency are critical.

Material & Properties

Coil tubes are fabricated from high-purity austenitic stainless steel grades, selected for their exceptional combination of corrosion resistance, mechanical integrity, and processability in cold-formed geometries.

Performance Characteristics for Reactor Applications

Manufacturing Process

The production of high-precision stainless steel coil tubes follows a multi-stage cold-forming and heat-treatment process designed to maintain metallurgical integrity throughout the coiling operation.

Process Flow

  1. Raw Material Preparation: High-purity stainless steel billets are melted via Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) or Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) processes to ensure tight chemical composition control and minimize inclusions.
  2. Hot Rolling & Annealing: Billets are hot-rolled into round bar stock, followed by solution annealing at 1050–1150 °C with rapid water quenching to achieve a fully austenitic microstructure.
  3. Cold Drawing (Multi-Pass): Round bar stock is drawn through a series of precision tungsten carbide (WC) dies to form seamless tubing with controlled OD and wall thickness. Multiple passes ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality.
  4. Piercing & Elongation: Tubes are elongated through elongation rolls to achieve the required wall thickness while maintaining roundness and concentricity.
  5. Intermediate Annealing: Tubes undergo periodic annealing (1050 °C, 1–2 hours) between drawing passes to relieve work hardening and restore ductility.
  6. Coiling / Winding: Straight tube sections are wound into helical or spiral configurations using CNC-controlled coiling machines. The winding process is carefully controlled to avoid plastic deformation, kinking, or ovality.
  7. Final Annealing & Stress Relief: Coiled tubes are subjected to a final solution anneal (1050–1100 °C) followed by controlled cooling to eliminate residual stresses introduced during coiling.
  8. Pickling & Passivation: Surface oxides and contaminants are removed via acid pickling (HNO₃/HF mixture), followed by passivation treatment to form a protective chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) film.
  9. Quality Inspection: Each coil undergoes dimensional verification, hydrostatic pressure testing, visual inspection, and surface finish measurement prior to packaging.
