Stainless Steel Reactor Vessel Cooling & Heating Coil Tube (Coil Tube)

1. Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Reactor Vessel Cooling & Heating Coil Tube (hereinafter referred to as "Reactor Coil Tube") is a specialized heat exchanger component designed for integration within the interior of pressure vessels, reactors, and mixing tanks. Manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd., this product serves as an internal heat transfer medium, enabling precise temperature control through either cooling or heating processes within chemical reaction environments.

Unlike external jacket-type heat exchangers, the reactor coil tube is immersed directly within the process fluid, providing superior heat transfer efficiency due to the direct contact between the coil surface and the working medium. This configuration is particularly advantageous for batch reactors, fermenters, crystallizers, and distillation columns where tight temperature regulation is critical to reaction kinetics and product quality.

The coil tube is fabricated from high-grade austenitic stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and mechanical integrity under varying pressure and temperature conditions. The serpentine or helical coil geometry maximizes the heat transfer surface area within a confined spatial envelope, ensuring compact installation within reactor internals.

2. Material & Properties

The primary material for this reactor coil tube is SAE 304 (UNS S30400) and SAE 316L (UNS S31603) austenitic stainless steel, selected based on the specific chemical environment and service conditions of the reactor application.

4. Manufacturing Process

The fabrication of reactor coil tubes follows a rigorous multi-stage process to ensure dimensional accuracy, structural integrity, and surface quality:

  1. Raw Material Inspection: Incoming stainless steel seamless tubes are verified against material certificates (Mill Test Reports, MTRs) for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional conformity per ASTM A213 or equivalent standards.
  2. Tube Straightening and Cutting: Straightened tubes are cut to precise lengths using CNC-controlled cutting equipment to minimize burr formation and ensure perpendicular end faces.
  3. Coil Forming (Cold Bending): Tubes are formed into serpentine or helical coil geometries using precision cold-bending machinery. The bending radius is calculated to prevent wall thinning and ovality exceeding 5% of the nominal diameter. Bending fixtures are designed to accommodate the specific coil pitch and span dimensions required by the reactor design.
  4. Heat Treatment (if required): For materials requiring stress relief or solution annealing post-forming, tubes are subjected to controlled furnace annealing at 1050–1100°C followed by rapid quenching to restore full austenitic microstructure and eliminate residual stresses.
  5. Welding and Assembly: Inlet and outlet connections are welded using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) in a shielded atmosphere (Argon, 99.99% purity). Weld seams are inspected via Visual Testing (VT) and, where required, Radiographic Testing (RT) or Ultrasonic Testing (UT) per ASME Section IX.
  6. Surface Treatment: The assembled coil undergoes acid pickling (using nitric/hydrofluoric acid mixture) and passivation (using citric or nitric acid solution) to remove mill scale, welding discoloration, and iron contamination, restoring the passive chromium oxide layer.
  7. Pressure Testing: Each coil tube assembly is hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times the maximum design pressure, held for a minimum of 15 minutes with no visible leakage or deformation.
  8. Final Inspection and Packaging: Completed coils are dimensionally verified, surface-inspected, and packaged with protective caps on all open ends, wrapped in acid-free paper, and secured in wooden crates for shipment.

8. Design Considerations

Note: The optimal design of a reactor coil tube requires careful consideration of multiple engineering factors including:

  • Heat duty calculation (Q = U × A × ΔTlm) to determine required coil surface area
  • Thermal expansion accommodation to prevent stress-induced failure at support points
  • Flow velocity optimization to maintain turbulent flow (Re > 4,000) and prevent stagnation zones
  • Vibration analysis to avoid flow-induced vibration (FIV) at natural frequencies of the coil structure
  • Material compatibility with both the process fluid (inside/outside coil) and the reactor vessel environment

This product represents a critical component in process thermal management systems, combining precision manufacturing with proven metallurgical performance to deliver reliable, long-duration service in demanding industrial environments.
