Stainless Steel Heating Furnace Heat Exchange Coil Tube (Coiltube)

Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Heating Furnace Heat Exchange Coil Tube (Coiltube) is a precision-engineered tubular product designed specifically for use in industrial heating furnaces and heat exchange systems. Manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd, this coil tube serves as a critical component in thermal energy transfer applications, where it facilitates efficient heat exchange between combustion gases and process fluids while withstanding extreme thermal cycling conditions.

Unlike conventional straight pipes, coil tubes offer superior surface-to-volume ratios, enhanced heat transfer efficiency, and compact installation footprints. The coiled configuration enables continuous heat exchange over a large effective area within a confined space, making them indispensable in metallurgical furnaces, chemical reactors, and power generation systems.

A critical operational concern for heating furnace heat exchange coils is the formation of scale deposits (fouling) on internal and external surfaces. Over time, mineral accumulation from process water or combustion byproducts reduces thermal conductivity, increases pressure drop, and may lead to overheating and tube failure. Understanding and monitoring scale formation is essential for maintaining optimal furnace performance and extending coil service life.

Manufacturing Process

Process Flow Diagram

  1. Material Selection & Incoming Inspection — Raw material (hot-rolled stainless steel pipe or strip) is verified against mill certificates for chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional conformity. Spectroscopic analysis (OES) confirms alloy grade compliance.
  2. Cutting & Straightening — Raw pipe is cut to required coil length with precision plasma or saw cutting. Straightness is verified to ensure uniform coil geometry.
  3. Coiling / Forming — The straight tube is formed into the specified coil geometry using a mandrel-based coiling machine. The forming process employs controlled cold bending to avoid work hardening, cracking, or ovality exceeding 1% of OD.
  4. Welding (Spiral or Butt) — Where continuous coil length exceeds raw pipe supply, spiral or butt welding is performed using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) with matching filler metal. Weld parameters are optimized for full penetration and minimum distortion.
  5. Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) — Solution annealing at 1050–1150°C followed by controlled cooling relieves residual stresses, restores full austenitic microstructure, and maximizes corrosion resistance.
  6. Pickling & Passivation — The coil is immersed in a hydrochloric acid (HCl) or citric acid solution to remove oxide scale, followed by passivation in nitric acid or citric acid to restore the chromium oxide passive film. Surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.8 μm is achieved.
  7. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) — Radiographic testing (RT) verifies weld integrity. Eddy current testing (ECT) detects internal and external surface defects. Hydrostatic pressure testing at 1.5× design pressure confirms leak-tightness.
  8. Dimensional Inspection & Final QC — Coil diameter, pitch, total length, OD, and wall thickness are verified against drawings. Surface quality is visually inspected under controlled lighting.
  9. Packaging & Delivery — Coils are wrapped in protective film, secured with steel strapping, and loaded onto flatbed or container for shipment with complete documentation.
