Stainless Steel Coil Tube for Molten Salt Heat Exchanger Systems

Product Overview

The Stainless Steel Coil Tube (Product No. 415) manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. is a precision-engineered spiral wound tube designed specifically for molten salt heat exchange applications. This product is optimized for use in molten salt single-shell double-coil heat release heat exchangers (Molten Salt Single-Shell Double Coil Heat Release Heat Exchanger), where superior thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, and mechanical integrity are critical for sustained performance under extreme operating conditions.

The coil tube geometry provides a significantly higher surface-area-to-volume ratio compared to straight tube configurations, enabling efficient heat transfer between molten salt media (typically nitrate salt mixtures) and process fluids. The double-coil arrangement within a single shell design maximizes thermal exchange capacity while minimizing equipment footprint.

Material & Properties

The coil tube is fabricated from high-grade austenitic stainless steel, selected for exceptional resistance to thermal stress, chloride-induced pitting, and oxidation at elevated temperatures.

Manufacturing Process

The production of high-quality stainless steel coil tubes follows a rigorously controlled multi-stage process to ensure dimensional accuracy, metallurgical integrity, and resistance to work hardening:

  1. Hot Rolling & Annealing: Stainless steel strip is hot-rolled to approximate dimensions and fully annealed to achieve a uniform austenitic microstructure free of residual stresses.
  2. Cold Drawing: The strip is cold-drawn through precision dies to achieve the exact OD and wall thickness tolerances. This process enhances mechanical strength while maintaining ductility.
  3. Coil Forming (Spiral Winding): The drawn tube is wound into a helical coil using CNC-controlled forming equipment. The winding process is monitored for constant pitch and diameter to prevent localized stress concentration.
  4. Post-Form Annealing: The formed coil undergoes stress-relief annealing at 1050–1100°C followed by controlled cooling to restore full ductility and eliminate cold-work hardening introduced during forming.
  5. Surface Treatment: Optional electropolishing or passivation treatment is applied to enhance corrosion resistance and achieve the required surface roughness specification.
  6. Quality Inspection: Each coil undergoes dimensional verification, hydrostatic pressure testing, visual inspection, and non-destructive testing (NDT) including eddy current and ultrasonic examination.

Applications

The stainless steel coil tube is engineered for demanding thermal systems where conventional straight-tube heat exchangers are impractical or insufficient:
