Deepwater Umbilical Coiltube — Hydraulic & Chemical Injection Lines (1000–3000 m)

Product Overview

This high-performance stainless steel coiltube is purpose-engineered for use as the hydraulic and chemical injection lines within subsea umbilical cables deployed in deepwater oil and gas facilities operating at water depths ranging from 1,000 m to 3,000 m. Unlike conventional thermoplastic or thermoset tubing, this coiltube solution provides superior mechanical integrity, corrosion resistance, and fatigue durability under the extreme combined loading conditions encountered in dynamic deepwater environments — including cyclic axial loads, bending, torsion, hydrostatic pressure, and chemical aggressiveness.

The product is manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. and is supplied as a precision-wound coil tube, ready for integration into umbilical manufacturing lines. Each coil is individually serialized and traceable throughout its full production and quality assurance lifecycle.

Material & Properties

The coiltube is available in two premium alloy grades, selected based on the specific chemical environment, pressure rating, and fatigue life requirements of the end application:

Option A — UNS S32750 (2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel)

Option B — UNS N06625 (Inconel 625 Nickel Alloy)

Manufacturing Process

The production of this coiltube follows a rigorously controlled multi-stage manufacturing process to ensure dimensional precision, metallurgical integrity, and fatigue reliability:

  1. Raw Material Procurement & Certification: Billet or bar stock sourced from certified mill suppliers with full mill test certificates (MTCs) conforming to EN 10204 Type 3.1. Each heat is chemically verified via optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and spectrographic analysis.
  2. Hot Rolling / Forging: Initial reduction of ingot/billet to semi-finished rod or tube blank at controlled rolling temperatures to achieve desired grain structure and minimize internal defects.
  3. Piercing & Hot Extrusion: Tube blank is pierced and hot-extruded to approximate final OD and wall thickness dimensions with a tolerance of ±10%.
  4. Solution Annealing / Heat Treatment: Tubes are solution-annealed at 1,050–1,120 °C (Inconel 625) or 1,050–1,100 °C (2507) followed by rapid water quenching to dissolve precipitates and achieve maximum toughness and corrosion resistance.
  5. Cold Drawing & Precision Sizing: Multi-pass cold drawing through hardened tungsten carbide dies to achieve final OD, wall thickness, and roundness tolerances (±0.02 mm). This process work-hardens the material, improving fatigue resistance and surface finish.
  6. Coil Winding: Precision-controlled winding onto mandrel at specified inner diameter with uniform tension to prevent distortion, kinking, or residual stress introduction.
  7. Full-Length Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Every coil undergoes 100% full-length automated ultrasonic testing (UT) and eddy current testing (ET) to detect internal and surface defects. Defect acceptance criteria per API 579 and project-specific requirements.
  8. Hydrostatic Pressure Testing: Each coil is hydrostatically tested at 1.5× the maximum working pressure for a minimum hold time of 60 seconds, with zero leakage tolerance.
  9. Final Inspection & Packaging: Visual inspection, dimensional verification (OD, wall thickness, roundness), surface finish measurement, and protective packaging for transport.

Fatigue Performance & S-N Curve Verification

A distinguishing feature of this coiltube product is the provision of verified fatigue S-N (stress-life) curves derived from full-scale dynamic fatigue testing conducted in accordance with DNV-OS-F2002 and API 17E requirements. The fatigue testing program includes:

These validated S-N curves enable umbilical designers to perform rigorous fatigue life assessments with high confidence, reducing design conservatism and enabling optimized umbilical weight and cost.

Unique Selling Points

1. Full-Length NDT with Zero Defect Tolerance: Unlike many competitors who perform sampling-based NDT, every coil undergoes 100% continuous full-length ultrasonic and eddy current testing, ensuring no undetected internal or surface defects reach the customer.

2. Validated Fatigue S-N Curves: The provision of project-specific, statistically validated S-N curves eliminates the need for conservative design assumptions and provides quantifiable fatigue life data for regulatory and class approval submissions.

3. Dual Alloy Option: Offering both 2507 Super Duplex (high strength, cost-efficient) and Inconel 625 (maximum corrosion resistance, high temperature capability) enables engineers to optimize material selection for cost-performance balance.

4. Deepwater Provenance: Engineered and qualified for the full 1,000–3,000 m depth range, addressing the unique challenges of high hydrostatic pressure combined with dynamic fatigue loading.

5. End-to-End Traceability: Complete digital traceability from raw material heat number through every manufacturing step to the final coil, supporting lifecycle management and regulatory audit requirements.
