Manufacturing Process

The production of sanitary-grade stainless steel coil tube follows a rigorously controlled multi-stage manufacturing sequence:

  1. Raw Material Procurement & Inspection: Virgin stainless steel bar stock or cold-rolled strip is sourced from certified mills with full chemical composition and mechanical property verification. Each heat lot is accompanied by a Mill Test Certificate (MTC).
  2. Coil Forming / Piercing:
    • Seamless route: Solid bar stock is heated and pierced to form a hollow billet, then cold-drawn through a series of precision dies to achieve the target OD and wall thickness.
    • Welded route: Cold-rolled stainless steel strip is fed into a precision coil tube mill, where it is formed into a tube shape and longitudinally welded using Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) or Orbital Automatic Welding (OAW) under controlled argon shielding.
  3. Heat Treatment (Annealing): The tube coil is subjected to solution annealing at 1050–1100 °C followed by controlled cooling to restore full austenitic structure, relieve residual stresses, and ensure optimal ductility and corrosion resistance.
  4. Acid Pickling & Passivation: The annealed coil is immersed in a mixed acid bath (typically HNO₃/HF or H₂SO₄/HNO₃) to remove oxide scale and free iron, followed by passivation in dilute nitric acid to re-establish a stable, self-healing chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) passive film on both internal and external surfaces.
  5. Internal Surface Polishing / Electropolishing: The interior of the tube is mechanically polished using precision grinding stones or undergoes electropolishing to achieve the required sanitary-grade internal surface roughness of Ra ≤ 0.4 μm. This step is critical for eliminating microbial harborage points.
  6. Weld Bead Grinding & Polishing (Welded Tubes): The internal weld seam is meticulously ground and polished to achieve a near-flush finish (bead height ≤ 0.1 mm), ensuring no crevice corrosion or biofilm accumulation at the weld junction.
  7. Dimensional Verification: Each coil undergoes automated OD and wall thickness gauging, straightness inspection, and surface defect detection (eddy current or ultrasonic testing).
  8. Final Inspection & Certification: Comprehensive testing including hydrostatic pressure testing, chemical analysis, spectroscopic verification, and surface roughness profiling. Full EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificates are issued.
  9. Packaging: Coils are wrapped with protective film, placed on wooden or steel coil stands, and packed in export-grade crates to prevent surface damage during transit.

Applications

The sanitary-grade stainless steel coil tube conforms to ASTM A270 and is specifically designed for industries where hygiene, corrosion resistance, and process integrity are paramount:

Unique Selling Points

1. Dual Configuration Flexibility: Availability in both seamless and welded forms allows customers to optimize cost-performance trade-offs without compromising sanitary standards.

2. Ultra-Low Internal Roughness: Internal Ra ≤ 0.4 μm ensures minimal product residue and maximum cleanability — a critical requirement for FDA and EU food safety regulations.

3. Flush Weld Seam Technology: Precision grinding and polishing of internal weld beads to ≤ 0.1 mm eliminates dead legs and reduces bacterial adhesion risk in welded tube applications.

4.
