1. Product Overview

The ASTM A269 Stainless Steel Coil Tube is a premium-grade austenitic stainless steel tubing product manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd, conforming to the internationally recognized ASTM A269 specification. This standard governs the production of Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Tubes, Pipes, and Fittings, and is widely regarded as the most widely referenced general-purpose standard in international trade for austenitic stainless steel tubular products.

Available in both seamless and welded configurations, these coil tubes are delivered in coiled form to facilitate downstream processing, cold forming, bending, and automated fabrication. The austenitic microstructure ensures exceptional corrosion resistance, excellent formability, and reliable performance across a broad temperature range, making these products indispensable in chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and energy sectors worldwide.

4. Manufacturing Process

4.1 Seamless Coil Tube Production

  1. Raw Material Preparation: Virgin stainless steel billets or ingots are melted via Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) or Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) to ensure precise chemical composition and low impurity levels.
  2. Hot Piercing & Hot Rolling: Billets are heated to approximately 1150–1250°C and pierced to form hollow blanks, followed by hot rolling to reduce wall thickness and OD to near-final dimensions.
  3. Pickle & Descale: The hot-rolled tubes are pickled in mixed acid baths (HNO₃/HF or HNO₃/H₂SO₄) to remove oxide scale and restore a clean, corrosion-resistant surface.
  4. Cold Drawing / Cold Rolling: Tubes are cold-worked through calibrated dies or rolling mills to achieve precise dimensional tolerances, improved mechanical properties, and enhanced surface finish. Multiple passes may be employed.
  5. Intermediate Annealing: When required by the cumulative cold work, tubes are annealed at 1050–1150°C in a controlled atmosphere to restore ductility and prevent cracking.
  6. Final Annealing & Pickling: Tubes undergo final solution annealing followed by acid pickling to achieve the desired microstructure, surface cleanliness, and corrosion resistance.
  7. Coiling: Finished tubes are wound onto precision coil reels to the specified inner diameter and weight per coil.

4.2 Welded Coil Tube Production

  1. Strip Milling: Cold-rolled stainless steel strip of the required grade and dimensions is procured and inspected for flatness, width, and thickness tolerances.
  2. Slitting & Leveling: Strip is slit to the exact width required for the target OD and leveled to ensure uniform forming.
  3. Forming & Welding: The strip is formed into a tube shape and welded using Electro Resistance Welding (ERW) or Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG/AW) welding. Backing gas (argon or nitrogen) is employed during welding to prevent internal oxidation.
  4. Pipe Making & Sizing: Welded tubes are passed through sizing rolls to achieve precise OD and wall thickness.
  5. Weld Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) Treatment: For seamless-equivalent properties, the HAZ may be removed by internal machining, or the tube may be heat-treated to homogenize the microstructure.
  6. Final Annealing & Pickling: Identical to the seamless process, ensuring uniform corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
  7. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Eddy current testing is performed along the entire length to detect weld defects, including incomplete fusion, cracks, and porosity.
  8. Coiling & Packaging: Tubes are coiled and protected with moisture-proof wrapping and wooden or steel banding for shipment.
