Monel 400 Nickel-Copper Alloy Coil Tube

Product Overview

Monel 400 Coil Tube is a premium nickel-copper alloy product engineered for extreme corrosion resistance in the most aggressive industrial environments. Designated as Alloy 400 under the Nickel Institute classification system, this coil tube is manufactured by Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. to deliver exceptional performance in marine, chemical processing, and high-purity applications where conventional stainless steels fail.

Monel 400 is an austenitic nickel-copper alloy containing approximately 67% nickel (Ni) and 30% copper (Cu), with trace amounts of iron, manganese, and carbon. Its unique metallurgical composition provides outstanding resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric acid (HF), alkaline solutions, and a wide range of reducing acids — making it the alloy of choice for critical process equipment in the petroleum refining, chemical, and offshore industries.

Material & Properties

Chemical Composition

Monel 400 is classified as UNS N04400 per ASTM standards. The alloy is predominantly composed of nickel and copper, which synergistically provide the material's signature corrosion resistance characteristics.

Manufacturing Process

Monel 400 Coil Tube is produced through a rigorous multi-stage manufacturing process designed to ensure metallurgical integrity, dimensional accuracy, and surface quality:

  1. Raw Material Selection: Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) or Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) processed ingots with tightly controlled trace element composition to minimize impurities (S, P, Si, C).
  2. Hot Rolling: Billet is hot-rolled to the desired coil tube blank dimensions with precise temperature control to maintain optimal grain structure.
  3. Coil Forming: The rolled strip is precision-formed into tube geometry using continuous roll-forming technology, ensuring uniform wall thickness and consistent circularity.
  4. Solution Annealing: Heat treatment at 900–1000°C followed by controlled air or water quenching to achieve a fully solution-annealed microstructure with maximum corrosion resistance and ductility.
  5. Pickling & Passivation: Chemical cleaning to remove oxide scale and form a protective chromium-oxide passive film on the surface.
  6. Dimensional Inspection: Non-destructive testing (NDT) including eddy current inspection, hydrostatic pressure testing, and dimensional verification per ASTM B751 requirements.
  7. Coiling & Packaging: Finished coil tubes are wound onto precision spools, protected with moisture-absorbent packaging, and labeled with full traceability documentation.

Unique Selling Points

Technical Advisory: Monel 400 Coil Tube should not be used in environments containing oxidizing acids (e.g., nitric acid, chromic acid) or in the presence of dissolved oxygen at elevated temperatures, as these conditions can compromise the protective passive film. For mixed acid environments, compatibility assessment with our technical team is recommended prior to specification.
