Stainless Steel Coil Tube — Pneumatic Pressure Test (Compressed Air/Nitrogen Hold)
Product Overview
Wenzhou Jixing Metal Materials Co., Ltd. manufactures high-precision stainless steel coil tubes designed for demanding industrial applications requiring reliable pressure containment. Each coil tube undergoes rigorous quality assurance, including a specialized pneumatic pressure hold test using compressed air or nitrogen at 1.1× the design pressure. This non-destructive inspection method ensures absolute integrity of the tube wall, weld joints, and coil geometry prior to shipment.
The pneumatic pressure test is a critical quality gate applied when hydraulic (water) pressure testing is impractical due to product configuration, coil geometry, or operational constraints. It provides a validated assurance of leak-tightness and structural soundness under service conditions.

Manufacturing & Testing Process
- Coil Forming: Stainless steel strip is cold-rolled and formed into precise coil tubes with controlled bend radii and wall uniformity.
- Welding (if applicable): Longitudinal welds are performed via TIG or laser welding with full penetration and post-weld heat treatment.
- Heat Treatment: Solution annealing to relieve residual stresses and restore full corrosion resistance.
- Hydrostatic Pressure Test (Primary): Standard water pressure testing at 1.5× design pressure is performed as the first-choice inspection method.
- Pneumatic Pressure Hold Test (Alternative): When hydrostatic testing is not feasible (e.g., complex coil geometries, inability to drain water, or customer specification), the following protocol is executed:
- Written approval is obtained from the quality assurance department and, where required, the end customer or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
- The coil tube is sealed at both ends with certified pressure-rated plugs.
- Dry compressed air or nitrogen is introduced gradually to 1.1× the design pressure.
- The test article is held at pressure for the specified duration while soap solution is applied to all welds, joints, and suspected areas — or the entire coil is immersed in water to detect escaping gas bubbles.
- A pressure gauge with certified calibration records any pressure drop; zero drop is required for acceptance.
- Post-Test Handling: Pressure is vented slowly to avoid shock loading. Test records are archived with lot traceability.
Applications
- Heat exchanger coils in chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical processing
- Refrigeration and HVAC condenser/evaporator tubing
- Automotive radiator and intercooler assemblies
- Food and beverage processing equipment (sanitary grade 316L)
- Power generation and energy storage systems
- Marine and offshore engineering where corrosion resistance is critical
Quality Certifications & Compliance
- ISO 9001:2015 — Quality Management System certification
- EN 10204 3.1/3.2 — Material and test documentation per European standards
- ASME "S" Stamp — Compliance for pressure-containing products (where applicable)
- API 5L / API 5CT — Available upon request for energy-sector applications
- NADCAP / ISO/IEC 17025 — Calibrated test equipment and traceable measurement systems
Key Advantages
- Non-destructive verification — Pneumatic testing preserves the product without introducing water-borne contaminants or residual moisture, critical for hygienic and cryogenic applications.
- Full coverage inspection — Soap solution or water immersion detects even micro-leaks invisible to visual or ultrasonic methods.
- Controlled risk management — Strict approval protocols, qualified operators, and documented procedures ensure safety while maintaining product integrity.
- Traceability — Every coil tube is accompanied by a complete test dossier including pressure values, hold time, operator ID, and acceptance signature.
